Isola Bella on the Lago Maggiore
The Isola Bella, the most beautiful of the Borromean islands, shews itself upon the lake as a series of terraces clothed with verdure interspersed with statues, fountains, vases, grottoes of shells, marbles, that rise in a pyramidical form, one above the other, from the water's edge.
