Item Description: | 13th plate of Antiquarum Statuarum Urbis Romae, Quae in publicis privatisque locis visuntur, Icones, published in Rome, as 3rd part in the 2nd edition of the Vestigi dell'antichità di Roma by Etienne Du Pérac, by Andrea and Michelangelo Vaccaro, after 1607, probably after 1614. This edition also includes "Ornamenti di fabriche antichi et moderni dell'alma città di Roma" by Giovanni Maggi, published in 1600 by Andrea Vaccaro. The volume was published after 1607 (or after 1614) as the statue of the Fauno in the "... Icones" is said to form part of the Borghese Collection, but was owned by the Ceoli family until 1607. However, in the 1614 sale catalogue of Andrea and Michelangelo Vaccaro, the 3 series are still separate. The title page has the name of the publisher and the date of the original edition: Romae, Ex typis Laurentii Vaccarii ad Signu(m) Palmae victricis, with the addition of: Parte terza before the date, M.D.LXXXIIII. Set includes 36 unnumbered sheets (72 half-page engravings including title page). This plate is printed on the same sheet as: Faunus apud Card. Burghesium. Good condition. |
